Alternatively, you can put a feed attachment on his kibble, e.g. B. Bone broth to improve flavor and encourage eating.
These are just two temporary fixes (may not work!!) so in this article I'm going to help you try themUnderstand why your dog is refusing dry food, what the reasons could be and most importantly, how you can get your dog to start eating againhis dry food and in a healthy way.
Which dry food is better for your dog?

- Dry food is an easy, quick and clean way to feed a dog
- Many dry food brands are now using itingredients for people, which guarantees a complete supply of nutrients and energy for your dog
- Kibbles have a crunchy texture that willKeep your dog's mouth clean and his breath acceptableto that of raw or fresh wet food
- Finally,The price of dry dog food is lower than other optionseven if they are premium kibble, which is a good argument if you have multiple dogs to feed.
In spite of allSome dogs refuse dry foodor eat, but it gradually refuses to fall back on the leftover food, which is also a bad thing
Let's see how to get a dog to like his kibble again and finish his bowl.
What can I add to my dog food so he will eat it?
These foods are calledfood essays,You will remove a little of your dog's food and then pour a little topper on it to entice the dog to start eating and hope that he will follow his usual food at the bottom of the bowl, his kibble.
Here is the list of toppers that you can use as appetizers for your dog:
- Only ¼ cup of hot water for some dogs.
- Low sodium bone broth (homemade is better)
- Goat's milk or plain yoghurt
- His favorite vegetables steamed or boiled and diced.
- Some grated cheese (read this article first)
- Fish oil or canned sardines in vegetable oil (remove some of the oil!)
- A raw or poached and sliced egg
- Pumpkin puree (light & no spices) & any cooked orange veggies like carrots, sweet potatoes...
- Dried or boiled meat (chicken cooked 15 minutes and ground beef)
- SomeHigh quality canned food
- Yams and green vegetables like chopped raw kale or parsley
- Peanut butter, just a little in some warm water before adding it
- Peas and green beans and some cooked rice
The reasons why your dog won't touch his dry food more?
Your dog may reject his bowl of dry food and refuse to eat for a variety of reasons, here are the most common:
1 - Your dog might be sick
If you are used to your dog throwing himself on his dry food and eating a large amount of it,but suddenly he stopped eating!!
You should know thathe/she needs to see his/her veterinarian, after taking him outside and being sure he should be hungry normally! and that there is no apparent reason why your dog refuses his food!!!
you give himall kinds of food that dogs like to eat, his favorite food , treats he loves the most and he still refuses to eat?
Your dog is probably ill, e.g. B. Dental problems and the vet would be a much better adviser than I am.
If you are certain that your dog is not showing any further signs of illness, or if his vet has confirmed this, then we will seewhat other reasons might prompt your dog to fast.
Diseases like colitis can be the reason why your dog refuses his dry food.
If your dog has stopped eating his usual treats, it may also be because he has developed an allergy to an ingredient in his dry food.
Your dog may have a wound in its mouth that you didn't see!
Eventually, the stress and change in his habits may cause him to refuse to eat. If you've recently moved or just changed your dog's schedule, his favorite bowl broke and you bought another one he doesn't like...
Something may have spooked your dog in your absence, which may have caused him trauma that robs him of his appetite!
So before you blame the kibble, make sure your dog is healthy, both physically and mentally
2-Your dog's dry food (dry food) may be out of date
rememberCheck the expiration date of the dry foodYou give to your pets, especially your dog, because he has a very sensitive nose and a very developed sense of smell.
Your dog refuses to eat his treats because they may be stale, he smelled it, but put it down !
A few tips to keep your dog's dry food safe and avoid contamination or spoilage
Your dog's dry food should be stored in acustom made container(See the one i on Amazonrecommend) and store in a dry and elevated place.
You must, tooClean your dog's food bowl every day, and if there is food left in it, put it in a dry place away from your other pets, insects and moisture.
3-Stop his bad eating habits to get your dog back to eating dry food
You or maybe someone else in the house (why not the kids, it can be Pappy!!) secretly give the dog treats or leftover food!!
If it is you,Check how you feed your dog,Stick to just one or two meals a day, and some treats if he's training or really deserves them... and that's it !
When the kids feed your dog cheese and becon, ice cream, or anything else we humans eat without your knowledge,Your pooch will probably never care about his bowl of kibble!!
4- Consider switching to raw, semi-raw or wet dog food
First, if your dog refuses to eat the kibble or his usual kibble, think twicesprinkle some raw vegetables on top.
This can encourage your dog to eat the kibble right after the raw kibble!!
Instead of throwing bacon or raw meat on the kibble, your picky dog will love MEAL MIXERS Free Dried Raw, try air-dried raw dog food too...etc.
Perfect for picky eaters!Add a scoop of Meal Mixers Dog Food Toppers to kibble or kibble for a raw boost of nutrients and flavor. Your dog will love this recipe; 95% pork, offal and bones, plus organic fruit and veg
Pour a little fish oil on the kibble to increase the palatability of the kibble.
Unless, consider buying premium kibble for your dog,It may be that the quality of the current dry food is not good!
5-Your dog refuses his dry food because you are no longer the dominant!
You may not have noticed, but it could be that your dog just overpowered you and is now acting like an alpha male!
He refuses to eat because he wants you to hand feed himfor example, or he would just accept treats...etc...
I guess that's the case when your dog goes in the door first and you follow if he doesn't come when you call him...
Try this :
First,Make sure you eat before you feed your dog,and most importantly, just give him about twenty minutes to eat andRemove his bowl even if he hasn't touched his kibble!
This way you can make him realize that you are the boss and that he better eat!
You need to consider behavior recovery by presenting it to oneobedience training.
6-Your dog eats his kibble but just won't finish his bowl!
You may be giving your dog just a little too much dry food, and he just doesn't finish his bowl! Check out this postFind out how much food you can feed your dog, depending on breed, size, age and daily activity.
7-Changing the dog's food can cause the dog to refuse to eat
Your dog may be refusing to eat his kibble because you may have bought him a new model that has onedifferent taste or smell to which he is not accustomedand which he just doesn't like (if he eats it, sureVomit after eating grass) (if he eats it, sureVomit after eating grass)!
You may have bought lower quality kibblethan what your dog normally eats, or less nutritional value!
If this is the case,You only have to order the food that your dog normally eatsand everything will go back to normal.
8- A bored dog may refuse to eat
Sometimes easyTurning the food over to play is enough to get your dog to decide to eat.You can simply throw the kibble on the ground, which can encourage your dog to pick it up and eat it. If not, use a kONG to put the kibble in and get your dog to work for it.
Sometimes just changing the location of the food bowl was enough to get the dog interested in eating his kibble again.
Your dog no longer wants dry food; Try freshly cooked dog food
You can think tooFeed your pooch a slightly more balanced and healthier dietthan this snack food.
I always advise dog owners to give it a tryfreshly cooked dog food,,They have different recipes and a different menu for each day of the week.
So your dog won't get bored of eating the same food every day!
The ingredients used are of human quality, the recipes are balanced and the dogs love them!
The different ways to introduce dry food and bring joy to your dog:
1- Slowly feed your dog dry food:
Dogs get used to what they are used to eating, and a sudden change in their diet is likely to cause them to refuse to eat.
Introduce treats to your dog little by little, adding more and more to his bowlwhile reducing his previous food until you are only feeding dry food in the bowl without your dog noticing the switch and transition from wet to dry food.
This process can take longer with fussy dogs, so be patient.
They will switch from wet food to dry food in 15 days.
Start by replacing 25% of his normal food with dry food for 3 to 4 daysuntil he accepts this new diet and you don't notice any diarrhea or constipation or other digestive or behavioral problems.
Then replace 50% of his food with dry food for 4 to 5 days, then go to 75% for a week and finally to 100%, which means your dog only has dry food in the bowl and will happily eat his new food.
2- Add dry food to his fresh food:
To get your reluctant dog to eat dry food,You can either mix it with his usual food or wet it with warm water and gradually reduce the amount of water you add to the dry food until the dog gets used to it.
Some parents put the kibble in the microwave for a few moments before serving it to the dog. This process enhances the smell of dry food and allows the fat to rise to the surface of the kibble, making it a little wet, which could make it more appetizing and appetizing for a dog who is used to fresh food.
To sum up,if your dog refuses his dry food, make sure he is not sick, sure it's not a new behavioral problem and finally check his food and change it if necessary!
One last advice:Never force your dog to eat, he will hate you for it because you will only make him sickBe patient, your dog will end up eating his kibble againif you follow the steps and do the checks I recommended.
